Accommodations for Students

You may be concerned about how going online with your courses may impact your students who have accommodations. If you follow these strategies in designing your online environment, you will be meeting their needs.

Utilize principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) (Resources for UDL)

  • Create test/exams/ assignments with principles of UDL
  • Allow students opportunities for multiple means of expression for assessment (essays, video presentations)

If your final exam will be conducted online, here are the things you need to know:

  • Test/exams times will need to be adjusted to include accommodated extra time. This extra time is identified on the student’s Confidential Accommodation Form.
  • If a student has the approved accommodation of “breaks”, this will need to be included in this accommodated time (additional 10 minutes per hour extra). This break time is identified on the student’s Confidential Accommodation Form.
  • Depending on the student’s accommodation there may be a need for students to write on alternate dates or times. SAS will be in contact with instructors regarding this matter.

The Staff of SAS are committed to working collaboratively with students’ staff and faculty to provide a successful learning experience.
